The best hotel in Madeira! It was our first time visiting this hotel and Madeira itself, but it certainly won't be the last. We loved the island and we loved Reid's Palace. From the moment we arrived the staff were wonderful, and everything about our stay was excellent. The breakfast and lunch buffets were fantastic, I was pleasantly surprised as my sister and I are both vegan, so sometimes we don't get much choice, but there was so much for us at both breakfast and lunch we were fed very well! We ate outside of the hotel every night though so I don't know how good the evening dinner would have been for us or not, as we like to explore the best vegan friendly restaurants when on holiday. But we were definitely happy in a morning and at lunch :) The pool area and gardens are wonderful, with amazing views over the sea and Funchal. We will definitely come back to Madeira, and we will definitely stay here when we do!
I booked our afternoon tea five months before our arrival in Madeira there having been no availability when we walked in on spec back in September last year.
Given the best table on the terrace we were treated like royalty by several well presented and attentive waiters. The sandwiches were a delight with many different fillings. The tea sublime and plentiful. The cakes were a little bland, but beautiful in their appearance.
Having taken tea in many places, including English royal residences, I can say there was one thing, which in my opinion was missing, there was no background music to complete the experience. On other similar occasions we have been treated to either a classical pianist or harpist, which in my opinion, our afternoon at Belmond Reid's Palace lacked. Apart from that, it was top notch and a very pleasant afternoon in convivial surroundings.
We had afternoon tea which was excellent and plenty of it. Wonderful selection of sandwiches, warm scones with jam and cream accompanied by lovely little cakes, alone with copious amounts of tea. The hotel was everything you would imagine tasteful throughout. The gardens are well worth spending time to amble round. The staff were very attentive all of which added to relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely return and take tea again. Would highly recommend.
