excellent food at good prices. Here Mama cooks herself, very tasty. Do not advertise with huge menu cards. Service is very friendly and accommodating, even requests that are not on the menu are promptly done.

notre 1er voyage en 2010 à madère nous a permis d'apprécier la cuisine, l'accueil et la bonne ambiance de ce restaurant, nous sommes retournés à Madère avec des amis cette année au mois de mai et bien sûr nous sommes de nouveau allés à "tartaruga " , la qualitée, l'accueil tout est toujours au rendez vous, un petit bonjour au patron très sympa !!!! (une petite pensée pour le canada.....) MARTIGUES n'est pas très loin de FUNCHAL on reviendra certainement !!!

Great food: locally caught octopus (stewed with tomatoes), sardines (grilled) and espada (baked). Also stopped here twice just for coffee. Friendly service and good value.
Good food and a very friendly atmosphere - relaxed and enjoyable. Can recommend it. A must visit when in Funchal. And you can learn a lot from Pedro and get a big hug from Blacky.
